privacy policy
effective 16 july 2026
Brotherhood is a private space for small crews of real friends. It is built to hold as little of your data as possible, for as short a time as possible. This page explains, plainly, what we collect and what happens to it.
what we collect
- account: your email address (used to sign you in with a one-time code) and your profile — display name, handle, and an optional avatar photo.
- content you share: messages, photos, videos, and voice notes you send to your crew, and crew details (name, optional crew photo, invite code).
- calls: video and voice calls are carried in real time by our call provider. Calls are never recorded and never stored.
- device & technical: a push-notification token, a per-install device identifier (used for delivery and read receipts), your app version and platform, and your crew's timezone (used to schedule the daily window).
- crash reports: if the app crashes, a diagnostic report (device model, OS version, and the technical state of the app at the moment it failed) is sent to our crash-reporting provider, Sentry, so we can fix it. Crash reports never contain your messages, media, or contacts, and we don't use them to track you.
what we don't do
- no advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- no analytics or tracking SDKs.
- no selling or sharing of your data with data brokers — ever.
- no public content: nothing you post is visible to anyone outside your crew.
- no contact-list upload. Crews grow only by invite code.
how your content is stored
Our servers are a relay, not an archive. Messages and media are held on the server only until they reach your crewmates' devices, and are permanently deleted from our servers within 3 days of being sent, whether or not they were read. The lasting copy of your crew's history lives on each member's own device. Media is stored in private storage readable only by your crew while it exists.
services we rely on
Brotherhood runs on a small number of infrastructure providers, which process data on our behalf to deliver the service:
- Supabase — authentication, database, file storage, and realtime delivery.
- Daily.co — real-time video and voice calls.
- Expo — push-notification delivery.
- Sentry — crash reports (EU-hosted).
how long we keep things
- messages, photos, videos, voice notes: at most 3 days on our servers.
- account and profile data: until you delete your account.
- push tokens and device records: until you sign out or delete your account.
deleting your account
You can delete your account inside the app at any time: profile → delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent — your account, profile, and everything you've sent are removed from our servers. Crews you founded pass to their next member. See delete your account for details, or email us and we'll do it for you.
your rights
You can see and edit your profile in the app, and delete your account and data as described above. If you have any question about your data — including requests under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) or the GDPR — email us and a human will answer.
children
Brotherhood is not for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change takes effect.
